Effect of coronavirus on our mental health
Effect of coronavirus on our mental health
We have been suffering from coronavirus or covid-19 for about 2 years now. December 2019 is when it all started, many businesses suffered but the biggest thing at risk was our health and our mental health. It is very important to take care of physical and most importantly mental health so, in this article we will discuss the effect of coronavirus on our mental health.
Is mental health one of the most important topics in these times, should it be?
Yes, mental health should be one of the most important topics, but unfortunately it is not. Everyone is talking about how to stay physically healthy but very few people know that mental health is as important as physical health, which is very sad considering the fact that depression cases are up 27.6% because of covid.
What are the best ways to avoid mental illness?
The best way to avoid mental illness is staying positive. Here are some of the best ways to stay positive in these hard times:
- Meditate When you meditate you forget all your problems, stress and doubts about yourself. You focus on one thing that could be anything like: your goals, achievements etc. So meditating every morning would be very beneficial!
- Stay Active Research shows that people who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional well being, and lower rates of mental illness, though it is not a good idea to go outside these days, just by putting on an exercising video on any device you can workout!
- Talk about your feelings Talking about your feelings can help you stay in good mental health and deal with times when you feel troubled. Talking about your feelings isn't a sign of weakness. It's part of taking charge of your well being and doing what you can to stay healthy!
- Eat well What we eat doesn't just affect our physical health: it can also affect our mental health and well being. Eating well (which means having a balanced diet full of vegetables and nutrients) can improve your sense of well being and your mood.
- Cut back on social media time A 2018 University of Pennsylvania study found that reducing social media use to 30 minutes a day resulted in a significant reduction in levels of anxiety, depression, loneliness and sleep problems.
- Sleep well There's a close relationship between sleep and mental health. Living with a mental health problem can affect how well you sleep, and poor sleep can have a negative impact on your mental health.
Conclusion:
Take care of your mental health by staying positive, know that things will get better. You can do anything, achieve any goal if you want to. If you know someone who is going through this try to understand how hard it is and help them, support them, let them know how much you care for them, give out compliments and you will receive them too! And of course don't forget to "Stay Healthy, Stay Positive"
